This dissertation examines the strategic management of human resources and the way in
which a company’s strategy is put into practice through its people and through organised
quality management systems. Its aim is to highlight the connection between strategy, human
resources and quality, and to study it empirically in the transport and supply-chain sector.
The theoretical part successively analyses the concepts of strategy and strategic management,
the management of human resources as a strategic function, and the role of quality and of the
international ISO standards as management tools. Particular emphasis is placed on the way
these standards translate strategic objectives into measurable processes and performance
indicators.
The empirical part presents a case study of the company TRANSCONTAINER S.A., a Greek
transport and logistics enterprise, and analyses the development and implementation of a
Road Traffic Safety Management System in accordance with the ISO 39001:2012 standard. It
examines the structure and procedures of the system, the decisive role of drivers and
personnel, and the link between road safety and the overall strategy and quality of services.
The analysis shows that such a system is not merely a formal compliance requirement, but a
functional tool that reduces risks and operating costs, improves reliability and strengthens
corporate reputation. It is concluded that strategy is implemented through human resources,
within a framework of organised quality management systems, which is a key prerequisite for
the sustainable development of modern organisations.
