This dissertation focuses on the exploration of occupational burnout within the maritime industry, one of the most demanding and psychologically taxing professional environments. The aim of the study is to identify the key factors contributing to the emergence of burnout and to investigate the role of leadership—with particular emphasis on authentic leadership—as a means of preventing and mitigating the negative consequences associated with the syndrome. Through an empirical study involving a structured questionnaire administered to seafarers and shipping company employees, the research analyses burnout dimensions, organizational behavior, and psychological resilience. The findings indicate that empathic, supportive, and transparent leadership styles can act as a protective factor, reducing emotional fatigue and enhancing employee resilience. The study concludes with practical suggestions for prevention strategies and directions for future research within the maritime context.
