The following diploma thesis, entitled <<the effect of social media on Greek tourism in the last decade>>, is being prepared with the aim of completing the Master's program MBA Tourism, University of Piraeus, UNIPI. The research focused both on the influence of social media, from the point of view of tourism businesses, and on the influence received by tourists themselves. The following content includes bibliographic references, which focus on clarifying many assumptions surrounding the subject under consideration, while at the same time the execution of the two questionnaires that were carried out during the preparation, complete the theory and form the final results and conclusions. There is no doubt that the tourism industry is the flagship of the Greek economy, while social media influence the sector, placing it in the modern environment of the digital age of the 21st century, regenerating all the benefits that arise from their use, as and the capabilities provided and offered to anyone who decides to use them as a powerful tool, either on the consumer side or on the business side. According to the research below, social media offers a multitude of benefits to the tourism industry, empowering destinations and businesses operating in the industry. In addition, their contribution is great and important for the tourists themselves, who, using social media at all stages of a trip, have benefited as a result of better planning and planning of their trips, better and more valid information about with a destination, as well as the facilitation of feedback and sharing of experiences and feelings experienced with familiar or offline persons, in the social media that have an account and actively use them. In the modern world, with tourism evolving more and more, social media has a great impact on this industry, with the Greek tourism industry being reshaped through the use of online tools and tourists developing a different tourism behavior, compared to previously, obviously changed, due to social media.
