Maritime has sustained phenomenal changes since the very beginning some
hundreds years ago. However what has not changed i the desire to make the whole sector
safer and more efficient. In the current thesis we focus on the Cruise Industry. We
examine how the institutional framework, which has been reformed tremendously during
the last decade, affects the Cruise field and what the economic, environmental and social
ramifications are. All the above-mentioned, are examined concerning the Greek case.
Aim of the research i to highlight the contribution of a well balanced regulation
framework in terms of safety and economic growth. What is more, we elaborate on home
ports and the necessity of coordinated sustainable evolution of the industry as a unit.
