In today's competitive, rapidly changing environment, creating and maintaining a competitive advantage, is crucial for today's businesses. Surveys reveal that over time the acquisition of competitive advantage has become very difficult to achieve, let alone to maintain. Innovation is considered as a critical component for the rejuvenation of an enterprise in order to maintain its competitive advantage. Moreover, the management of innovations, which helps a company sustain its competitive advantage is a very contemporary and "hot topic" in today's volatile environment. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the relationship between innovation, as strategic direction of the organization and how it affects the company's competitive advantage. The aim is to fully understand and comprehend the importance of entrepreneurship and to recognize the contribution of innovation to the company's revitalization.
In order to meet the objective of the study, specific concepts (topics) have been selected, which are the subject of each chapter and which have prevailed after a thorough study. Specifically, the first and second chapter of the study deals with the concepts of entrepreneurship and competitiveness respectively. Definitions and different approaches are examined, in order to better comprehend the above topics. The third chapter presents the "world of strategy", analyzes concepts such as "model of strategic management", definitions, sources, types and the "How" to maintain a competitive advantage. The fourth chapter justifies the claim that innovation is a source of competitive advantage, it analyzes the concept of innovation and its effects. Finally, the fifth and sixth chapter of the study occupies a case study of COCO-MAT company, which is used as a practical example to demonstrate that through it's long term innovation strategy, the company has gained and sustained its competitive advantage over time.
