The flipped classroom model according to recent researches leads to better learning outcomes of educational goals. This is the case for investigation and confirmation, with experimental results, of the dissertation.
In this master thesis firstly, an educational spiral action research was designed and completed in two research cycles. The action research concerned the implementation of the flipped classroom model. The educational intervention made use of the Moodle learning management system for both, experimental and control, groups. The action research examined the results of the flipped classroom model, in the fifth grade history course. More specifically, the research questions of the action research were:
1. Can the application of the flipped classroom model lead to better learning outcomes?
2. Can the application of the flipped classroom model contribute to better and more creative use of teaching time?
The results of the action research showed that applying the flipped classroom model may result clearly to better learning outcomes, especially in the cultivation of historical thinking skills. The implementation of the flipped classroom model can contribute to better and more creative use of teaching time. Furthermore, a correlation of teaching time spent in the classroom and student performance in the cultivation of historical thinking skills has been statistically proved.
