Changes in the approach to learning, as well as individual differences dictate a high degree of flexibility so that all students receive the appropriate level of challenge, support and engagement, lo this end, the Center for Applied Special Technology in the U.S. began to explore, develop and deliver the principles and practices of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). UDL is a framework that treats and restores the main factor that hinders the learning process, which is none other than the "one-size-fits-all-curricula”, offering flexible goals, methods, instructional means, materials and assessments to ensure equal access to learning for all students. Exploiting the opportunities offered by digital technologies is crucial for the implementation of UDL. Because of their inherent flexibility, digital media can be customized and adapted to individual learning needs and thus help remove obstacles often raised by traditional media, which frequently prove ineffective for learning. Therefore, using appropriate digital tools within the UDL framework, teachers can ensure equal learning opportunities for all students while providing a wide range of options and implementing alternative teaching methods. However, in order to embrace and implement UDL, Greek educators need to shift the way they deal with curricula which are traditionally used in schools. Hence, this thesis constitutes an attempt to design and develop a flexible online environment that utilizes the latest web technologies, respects the rules of usability and implements the UDL guidelines, in order to equip the Greek educational community with a multimedia guide and a constantly enriched toolbox on UDL, which can be used in multiple ways for training pre-service and in service Greek primary and secondary educators on the UDL framework.
