Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to show the importance of the use of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP) in Greek market as these systems are the future of any new enterprise; they are increasing worldwide and today have become an indispensable tool for any business operation. Although in recent decades the IT sector in our country has experienced significant growth, contributing greatly to the overall economic growth and modernization of enterprises, the past years, it undergoes parallel with the Greek economy. The key features of the "competitiveness", which are the need for providing increased value to customers and reduction of operating costs, could even lead to the bankrupt of the enterprise, in case the chosen ERP system is not suitable for the company. Taking into consideration the above mentioned facts, we analyze the enterprise resource planning systems which are currently used in Greek companies. The environment in which they are being developed in businesses, evolving and changing so rapidly, thus creating new opportunities and challenges. Through a thorough presentation of the possibilities, advantages, disadvantages, subsystems and many more features of the largest enterprise resource planning systems which are used today in major Greek companies, we describe how these systems have contributed to better quality and productivity of our companies. Finally, we present some conclusions arising from the overall analysis of the thesis for the development and deployment of enterprise resource planning systems in the Greek market.
