The scope of this master’s thesis is the development of a 5-hour online self-study micro-course, titled “The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools for developing Digital English Language Teaching Resources”. The digital micro-course is structured around the principles of asynchronous self-study and micro-learning, drawing upon international and European reference frameworks (UNESCO AI CFT, AI Lit, DigCompEdu). Furthermore, it aims to address the training needs of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) educators regarding the understanding of artificial intelligence, the application of prompt engineering, and the design of differentiated materials.
The learning pathway is organized into two self-contained and consecutive micro-courses that cover four distinct learning outcomes. Specifically, the first micro-course focuses on the mechanics of Large Language Models (LLMs) versus traditional search engines, familiarization with the basic principles of Prompt Engineering, and the critical management of constraints such as AI Hallucinations. The second micro-course integrates the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) for dynamic role-play simulations via AI Chatbots, offering scalable scaffolding and personalized feedback according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Regarding the technical implementation, the digital micro-course was developed within the Wix web development environment, integrating a broad range of multimedia and interactive tools (Genially, Lumi/H5P, Twine, Canva, Vidnoz AI, NotebookLM). Subsequently, the internal evaluation of the course was conducted based on an evaluation rubric. Finally, the conclusions and proposals emphasized the importance of the human-in-the-loop principle, suggesting future pilot implementation in real-world settings and expansion to higher language levels (B2-C2).
