Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of examining the relationship between the Dark Triad and the Psychological Contract in the workplace. Specifically, it explores how the traits of the Dark Triad (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy) influence the types of Psychological Contracts of employees. For this purpose, a survey was conducted using a questionnaire, which was distributed to 101 employees of private companies. Participants were asked about their work status, the behavior of their employer and themselves, as well as the nature of their commitment to both the employer and the company. The results revealed that Psychopathy shows a weak negative tendency with the transactional contract, suggesting low commitment to formal work agreements. Machiavellianism exhibits a marginally positive relationship with the relational contract, possibly due to strategic motives. Narcissism is positively related to the relational contract, indicating that narcissists may engage in work relationships that enhance their self-image and goals. Overall, the relationship between the Dark Triad and the Psychological Contract is mixed, with Psychopathy having a negative impact, Machiavellianism being strategically involved, and Narcissism enhancing the importance of the relational contract.
