This thesis focuses on the design and development of an educational mobile application for learning
Greek Sign Language, implemented using the MIT App Inventor platform. The name of the app is
GSL App. The development of the application was based on the observation that the number of
available digital applications for Greek Sign Language remains particularly limited, and that no
comprehensive application has been identified that combines practically useful everyday vocabulary
with interactive assessment within a unified learning environment. The aim of this work is to create
an accessible and structured digital tool addressed to Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, as well as
to hearing users who wish to learn Greek Sign Language, thereby enhancing communication and
promoting social inclusion. The theoretical part examines the role of technology in the development
of inclusive learning environments and in supporting equal access to knowledge, while the practical
part presents the architecture of the application, the organization of content into multimedia
presentation sections and a comprehension assessment section through quizzes, as well as the
implementation of dynamic image, video, and scoring management mechanisms. The application
incorporates interactive elements in order to enhance active user engagement and knowledge
retention. The findings of the study demonstrate that even a visual programming environment can
support functional and pedagogically grounded digital learning solutions for Greek Sign Language,
contributing to linguistic equality and to bridging communication between Deaf and hearing
individuals.
