This postgraduate dissertation examines Agile Methodologies as a modern framework for Project Management, analysing their role in improving efficiency, adaptability, and overall project performance within a rapidly evolving business landscape. Drawing on an extensive literature review and an analysis of key Agile approaches (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, XP, DSDM), the study outlines both the theoretical progression and the practical application of flexible project management practices.
The research delineates the distinctions between traditional, agile, and hybrid project management models, emphasising their respective advantages, limitations, and appropriate contexts of use. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into project management, positioning it as an innovative mechanism that enhances decision-making, enables risk forecasting, and optimises resource allocation.
The dissertation further investigates the contribution of AI to maximising the effectiveness of Agile methodologies, highlighting its function as an enabling technology that strengthens predictive capabilities and operational efficiency. The study concludes by offering directions for future research, including the development of performance evaluation criteria for AI, the identification of critical factors influencing its adoption, and the advancement of high-level competencies among project managers.
Overall, this work contributes to a deeper understanding of how agile practices and artificial intelligence are transforming the contemporary project management landscape, offering theoretical insights and practical considerations for the discipline’s ongoing evolution.
