A digital self-study course for nursing care of elderly patients with dementia

This thesis focuses on the design and development of an asynchronous digital course for the
nursing care of older adults with dementia, with the aim of strengthening professional
competencies and the adoption of person-centred, evidence-based practices. The need for
targeted training is evident, as dementia constitutes a complex clinical and social
phenomenon that requires effective interventions in communication, behaviour
management, and the safeguarding of quality of life.
The design followed the principles of microlearning, with focused units and explicitly stated
learning outcomes. Implementation in Google Classroom ensured a coherent flow of activities
and documented feedback, with assessment organised through rubrics and clearly defined
conditions for success.
Finally, an evaluation of the educational value of the course was carried out, and conclusions
and proposals were formulated for its future improvement. The project contributes to the
development of flexible online tools for education on dementia, providing nurses with
practical resources for effective and humane management of the problem.
