Interaction and transmission of information in virtual museums

Abstract
In this dissertation meticulous research is conducted on virtual museums of the 21st century, through bibliographical references. Their history throughout the years is considered, with an emphasis on their character and capabilities in today's world. Research is ongoing and focuses on the users of virtual museums and the development of a personal profile that can provide a personalized experience. In addition, the communication policies of museums and their practices for approaching their audiences are also reported on. Through bibliographical surveys, virtual museum exhibitions were examined, and specifically those that use augmented, mixed and virtual reality practices. Afterwards, the three-dimensional elements that help to complete a three-dimensional model have been mentioned. The result of the research indicates that the development of virtual museums is rapidly accelerating and in the near future they will be an evolution of the physical museums, due to the fact that they are easily accessible and play a pivotal role in the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage. In addition, the paper outlines the development of a virtual museum in the context of an archaeological exhibition of the shapes of ancient Greek vases. The museum is a virtual reality application that allows users to navigate and interact with the exhibits. It develops, in depth, the methodology that was followed to modelling the museum and the exhibits. At the same time, it highlights the software used to implement the application.
