This thesis examines strategic planning in tourism organizations with a focus on crisis management. It begins with a review of the historical development of tourism, from the Middle Ages to modern trends, highlighting how the sector has evolved through economic, political, and social changes. The impact of various crises, such as economic, health, environmental, and social crises, on the tourism industry is then analyzed, showing how these events disrupt tourism operations.
The thesis then focuses on the importance of strategic planning, particularly during times of crisis. It discusses the stages of strategic management, from strategy formulation to implementation and control. By examining the relationship between strategic planning and the resilience of tourism organizations, it highlights how businesses can adapt during crises and ensure their long-term sustainability.
Lastly, it presents case study from the Greek tourism sector, showcasing real-life examples of strategic planning in the face of crises. The dissertation concludes with recommendations on how tourism organizations can better prepare for future challenges.
