As globalization remains at elevated level, businesses realize that their comparative advantage so far has acquired many vulnerabilities. The comparative advantage we refer to is none other than the supply chain.
Vulnerabilities come from a variety of sources, such as long supply chains, lack of visibility, economic and geopolitical disruptions, natural disasters and other reasons that cannot be easily predicted by the managers. However, the root cause is the complexity that supply chains have now acquired.
Managers are now beginning to become aware of the above vulnerabilities, experiencing more disruptions that endanger their business. They are therefore taking risk-related measures to increase the resilience and robustness of supply chains by shifting the hitherto lean just-in-time practice strategy to a mix of more complex just-in-time and just-in-case strategies.
The purpose of this work is to study the best strategies at a theoretical level and to provide a concise guide to businesses for future review of their practices.
