Education, being one of the main pillars of support and development of society, cannot be unaffected by rapid technological developments. Based on these developments, the role of the modern teacher is changed, demanding constant training so as to successfully fulfil the needs of the mentor capacity. The covid-19 pandemic disrupted social life and the regularity of educational processes, requiring in an emergent manner the implementation of distance education for pedagogical and social purposes. Technology has been called upon to fill the gap created by physical distance, offering opportunities for interaction and communication. On the occasion of the universal application of distance education during the suspension of the schools’ operation, the present dissertation examines the impact of distance education on the educational community in terms of the educational practice and of the teacher personally. The sample of this research consists of 50 Primary Education teachers and a questionnaire is used for the survey of their views on the subject. Some of the main results of the research are that participants generally have a positive attitude towards distance education, are capable of applying it and appreciate the possibilities that it offers in terms of innovation and support for specific learners. However, they are hesitant about distance learning methods, considering that it cannot be applied as a teaching mechanism in every subject and expressing the need for provision of technical support and training in new technologies as well as for implementation of personal data protection measures.
