This dissertation deals with the use of autonomous vehicles in our days and investigates which kind of technologies are used to achieve fully automated vehicles. Initially, an analysis of the terms that we would encounter in the following chapters was made, and a brief historical review as well. The types of autonomous driving, the advantages of using autonomous vehicles and the possible future challenges were then analyzed in detail in the following chapters.
The current legal framework on which autonomous vehicles should apply while using the public road network was also explained. Finally, the technical parts of an autonomous vehicle were analyzed in detail, both in terms of equipment and software.
Then the basic concepts of artificial intelligence, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning were analyzed in details. Finally, there is a brief presentation of an application created in the context of this dissertation and is based on neural networks and written in Python.
