The present diploma thesis seeks the study and implementation of the strategic analysis of the construction industry, and attempts the analysis of a Greek company operating in the construction sector.
Chapter 1 introduces the concept of strategy and strategic management and at the same time seeks to present its key elements. Chapter 2 is devoted to the analysis of the business environment with the aim of assessing the influence of the factors that act as a catalyst in the operation of companies but also in the formulation of strategy and the maintenance of a lasting competitive advantage. through the demarcation and description of the construction sector, the contribution of the sector to the Greek economy, while examining the current trends in project production, the expectations of companies for their level of activity in the immediate future, the prospects and developments from the pandemic of coronavirus (COVID-19). In this context, the construction industry is analyzed based on the Five Forces Porter’s Model, in order to determine its attractiveness with the criterion of the competiveness level that dominates in the sector. The chapter concludes with the presentation of the development strategies of the companies in the sector and the interventions to ensure and strengthen the contribution of the construction sector to the development process of the country. In Chapter 4, a strategic analysis of INTRAKAT, a Greek construction company, is carried out. Initially, a historical review of the company’s course is presented and its corporate profile, business model, corporate policies, the scope of activities and the financial results of the company are presented. The following is the PEST analysis and the SWOT analysis of the company, based on which the business and corporate strategies proposed for the company are presented.
Important sources on which this thesis was based have been projects assigned by the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), by ICAP, by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), by the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works, by the Association of Greek Contracting Companies (SATE) and by the Technical Chamber of Greece. Information and data were also taken into consideration from the press and Internet.
