The present work investigated whether the interdisciplinary approach could be beneficial for the teaching and learning of Mathematics in Primary education. Specifically, the scenario was orchestrated through PBL (Problem Based Learning), combining it with the "6 Thinking Hats" strategy, in a technologically supported environment, such as Edmodo. PBL is a learning technique through which learners are trained to solve "real" problems and consequently, to develop skills, such as problem solving and creative thinking. Furthermore, in order to achieve the interdisciplinary approach, a learning scenario was created, in which an attempt was made to combine Mathematics with the subject of Physics.
The purpose of the research is both the understanding of Mathematics on a specific unit, which is the "Addition & subtraction of fractions", with their parallel correlation with Physics, pointing out the importance of their teaching, while developing important skills. To support this aim, about 30 trainees participated in the distance learning program, and their data were used to investigate the research questions that are thoroughly presented in the work.
From the statistical analysis of the data collected from the conduct of the experimental procedure, it appeared that there was a verification of the alternative hypotheses that were asked according to the research questions. Therefore, it appears that the educational intervention was successful in achieving the specific objectives. In conclusion, at the end of the work are presented some suggestions for further research in the future
