The purpose of this study is to analyse the development of a business idea using the business model canvas. To be more specific, we seek to analyse the development of a business idea in the sharing economy. Prior to presenting the new business venture and setting up its business model, a comparative analysis of case studies of two similar business ventures precedes. Namely, the companies whose business models are being analysed are Uber and Airbnb. These companies were selected on the basis of their involvement in the sector of the sharing economy, their growing expansion and the impressive capitalisation. The aim of the comparative analysis of the business models of these two successful companies of sharing economy is to learn useful lessons in order to investigate whether they can be applied and to what extent for the development of the business model of the business venture proposed in this dissertation. The bibliographic sources include articles, online business editorials, company sites, reports, publications, newspapers and databases of companies that reflect the course of the aforementioned firms so far and provide useful insights for further research and implementation into new business ideas.
