By implemented this concepts critical benefits are gained in knowledge areas such as integration portfolio management, risk analysis, financial and strategic alignment between project sponsors, mission statement and the strategic goals of the organization.
The first part of this thesis introduces the fundamentals of decision making. In more detail, a decision making definition, a short historical background and some types of decisions are discussed in order to point out the differences between rational and irrational decision making.
In the second part a relation between decision making and project decision chain is analyzed. The basic argument of this chapter is the following: Which are the requirements for successful decision making? For this purpose it is crucial to define successfully concepts like project success, project management success and ongoing project success. Moreover, the Business Process Management and the Business Process Modeling Notation are proposed as the proper tools to answer the previous question.
In addition, a process based model of the holistic approach for project selection evaluation criteria through processes in portfolio level is being developed. Every aspect of a process(inputs, outputs)is presented in an appropriate way.
Finally, conclusion and future research are documented.
