Nowadays, the viability of community pharmacies is affected by the lower purchasing power of the customers, some changes to the supply chain and the intensifying competition paired with the squeeze on healthcare budgets. Therefore the independent pharmacists are severely challenged to break out of the role of the drug-seller in order to become the advisors of the patient by giving some added value to their services.
The aim of this work is to present the present and examine the future of the market and the new directions perhaps dictated by the current condition. At the same time, a research is carried out in order to study the relationship that may exist among customers with specific purchasing behaviors, between various consumption patterns and the degree of consumer satisfaction related to specific demographics.
The obtained results give an insight into consumers’ behavior and help the pharmacists shape new and more effective management strategies to improve their image, performance and the level of services provided in their pharmacy.
In order to realize this research, a questionnaire was distributed, which was fully filled out by 126 people. Participants cover all age and salary range. The results showed that patients confide in their pharmacist and that they are very satisfied with the quality of the services provided, the pharmacist’s scientific knowledge and consulting. Furthermore, they would like to be able to purchase a bigger variety of reliable products from the pharmacy.
