Entering the 21st century, the growth rate of technological development skyrocketed inducing changes in the structures, patterns and means of acquiring both basic and specialized knowledge.
Focusing on education, it is easy to infer the multiple advantages of the learning tools that accrued from this rapid technological development and make them the predominant way of learning, with integration in every single age group being the most profound among them.
They can be used both by the instructors, as well as the trainees, providing learning opportunities around the clock, without the time pressure resulting from exhausting degree programs, which combined with long distances and the contemporary fast paced life minimize our productive time. As a result, preparation time can be flexible and fully customizable.
Combining audiovisual material that can be customized to anybody’s individual needs, interests, qualifications and level of expertise and through a vast variety of choices, the right choice of learning material is up to the learner.
Finally, through the means of communication that modern technology provides (internet, videoconference etc.) a new era of learners without borders is being shaped. An era of learners whose perceptions are not anymore based on a single book, a single opinion provided in the strict boundaries of a classroom.
Relying on these advantages and my own experiences with several different types of educational material of this kind, especially through my degree program at the University of Piraeus and workplaces, this MSc thesis is an approach to English learning, through a software application with a pleasant, user friendly and totally understandable environment, aiming to gain the confidence of learning.
