The rapid technological evolution that has occurred in recent years has resulted in the development of innovative applications in all areas of our daily lives.
The development of mobile telephony , the internet and the many online services offered, give multiple possibilities of electronic communication, in an increasingly networked environment. The increasing use of mobile devices - constantly connected through the internet - offers new communication features available anywhere irrespective of time, location and movement.
However, growth and the above mentioned facts concerning the use of electronic communications, simultaneously raise important issues concerning security, privacy and confidentiality of communication, which users often tend to ignore or downplay.
Risks of eavesdropping and violation of the secrecy of communications exist for users of telecommunications networks and for internet users (cyberspace), while bugging incidents often emerge at a public view. Interception includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the listening to, monitoring or surveillance of the content of communications and the procuring of the content of data either directly, through access and use of the information systems, or indirectly through the use of electronic eavesdropping or tapping devices by technical means.
The scope of this thesis is to describe in full analysis the legislative framework governing the confidentiality of communications and at the same time to study and present - both technical and non - technical - issues related to security, privacy and the protection of privacy in the field of electronic communications
Furthermore, investigated confidentiality and privacy issues in smart phones, using mobile phone forensics methods and techniques are investigated. Finally, emerging issues and future challenges related to mobile cloud computing and mobile cloud forensics are also discussed.
