Point of sale systemsAbstract
The purpose of this master thesis is to study and examine the technologies used in the development of modern point-of-sale (POS) systems, aiming to provide services and operations, which are scalable, flexible and secure. This research analysed the disadvantages and advantages of these technologies, in order to clarify their usefulness in supporting point-of-sale systems. It then studied existing systems, used both internationally and domestically, focusing on the analysis of their services, features, architectures and specific technologies. This study concluded that several systems, although providing a wide range of services and functions, do not adequately support a basic service: the secure authentication and connection of users. This research aims to cover this need by using new technologies and proposing system architectures that can support the scalability and flexibility needed in these systems. We believe that using these simple approaches, architectures and technologies we can ensure adequate, secure and easy access of users in a point-of-sale system.
