The present thesis deals with the transshipment traffic in Piraeus port. Analyzing European's container market, we observe a steady growth of Mediterranean ports, mainly for their transshipment traffic and location. After building this framework, we examine Piraeus port, analyzing its transshipment traffic in numbers and studying the destination of cargo transshipped in Piraeus, as long as its origin. This study is performed both for Cosco (PCT) and OLP terminal. Carrying out SWOT analysis of Port Said port, port-competitor of Piraeus port, we conclude that there are many similarities with Piraeus port, so choosing a hub port in Mediterranean is not absolute and is characterized by market's instability. In conclusion, we strongly believe that more transshipment cargo in Piraeus means that all factors which make up port product should aim at maximum efficiency in all activities inside and outside of the port. Piraeus port has already built an important base in order to move higher in global ranking of container ports. We strongly believe that it will be proved in forthcoming years.
