In this dissertation are analytically presented the value of economic theory and the contribution in the society. Firstly, it is determined the word "economy” and is given a full picture of her via a quick historical retrospection. Moreover, is analyzed the significance of "economist”. In addition, are presented four important economists with one of their more important theories. In order to be more specific, the report refers to Alfred Marshall, John Maynard Keynes, Arthur Cecil Pigou and Paul Samuelson. The theories that are presented below had randomly been selected. Of course this does not mean that we must underestimate the other theories that they have. These four economists are internationally recognized and their theories are used both for educational and advisory reasons. Moreover, for every economist we refer to, there is a small biographical report with regard to a more complete comprehension of conditions under which, these more important scientists, wrote down their opinions-theories- conclusions. In the end, there is a total assessment of the contribution of economic theories, mainly for the evasion of faults that happened in the past and in order to be able to handle in a better and more efficient way the economic decision both in an enterprise level and in an international level.
