Abstract

The present work deals with the integration of computers in the early childhood education not only as a mean for entertaining children but also as an extension of the teaching process in the kindergarten, by using an educational software for the enrichment of a section or a work plan. Specifically, the subject that was chosen is that of the flora and we expand the subject both on cognitive and the linguistic domain. Children can acquire basic skills in handling the software with encouragement from the teacher and afterwards the can safely use the computer within the capacity of each child. The work consists of the following parts: a) the bibliographic part which analyzes the usefulness of IT in education and the importance of computers in learning and b) The research part, which presents the educational software "Learning about plants" and analyzes the results of its use. The survey results indicate that this kind of software, which combines learning with pictures, sounds, graphics, questions, quizzes and games, can be a valuable tool for the teacher in the teaching process.
