This dissertation includes a complete study, analysis, design and implementation of an e-learning system which focuses on children of elementary school and specifically on the maths subject. A great focus has been given in relevant studies and in the analysis as well in the design of the system. In order to accomplish the above in a satisfying extent, research about existing work has been performed for the below scientific fields: Intelligent Tutoring Systems, User Modeling, “Bugs” Diagnosis and Repair, Cognitive Theories. After this research, it was concluded that effects from CLT for the presentation of the cognitive subject, and practices related to BUGGY and REPAIR regarding diagnosis and repair of errors would be used. The system is adaptive based on the learner’s model. Taking into consideration the above the analysis and design was completed using UML diagrams. Due to the fact that the purpose of this dissertation was to create a learning community, where children would feel as member of a team, the system would have to be available via internet. This was the reason why the forum was implemented with PHP, the database with MySQL and last but not least the games in object-oriented Java. After the completion of the system, the relevant manuals were prepared and conclusions were finalized. The most significant is that pedagogy and psychology affects more drastically than the computer science features the gaining of knowledge. Finally, a high importance is given to the fact that information as well as error diagnosis and repair is provided adapting in the most efficient way per each learner separately, depending on the individually and skills of each person.
