The purpose of the present thesis is to examine the relationship between economic growth and quality of government using some specific political criteria. Using panel data estimators for a number of OECD countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and USA) and a range of government quality characteristics control of corruption, government effectiveness, regulatory quality, rule of law and voice & accountability and lastly political stability & absence of violence/terrorism, we find that only the latter exerts a positive and significant relationship on economic growth.
