Abstract

Nowadays, the sharing of applications, information and data between modern businesses and companies and the integration of separate systems is a great goal to achieve, mainly to reduce costs. For this purpose, businesses and companies expose their functionality as services, which are available at specific locations in the Internet. An appropriate architecture for this concept is Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), which can deliver many benefits to the businesses. In this postgraduate thesis, we study the features of Service Oriented Architecture as well as the technologies and the standards that this architecture uses. To demonstrate the benefits that occur from the use of the latter, we present an electronic invoicing system, which is based entirely on the Service Oriented Architecture. Every business can use the electronic invoicing system in order to create and send electronic invoices to its clients automatically, in a very short time and with less expense compared with the traditional invoicing system.
