The present study provides an analysis of the concept of risk alongside its calculation using the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), a model for asset valuation. The objective of this study, through the application of this model, is to link the expected return of an asset to its inherent risk, which is expressed by the beta coefficient (β). Specifically, the first chapter provides general information regarding the Air conditioning industry, including a brief historical overview and the sector’s evolution, with references to the global market, mergers and acquisitions, and the types of air conditioning companies. The second chapter describes the stock exchanges where the shares of these companies are traded, as well as their respective indices. The third chapter analyzes the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), as well as the systematic and unsystematic risk of a portfolio. Subsequently, the concepts of Harry Markowitz’s Modern Portfolio Theory, the Capital Market Line (CML), and the Efficient Frontier are presented. Finally, using Microsoft Excel, an investigation was conducted into the correlation between market index fluctuations and air conditioning company stock returns to determine whether these two variables move proportionally or inversely.
