The application of artificial intelligence in HR - opportunities and ethical dilemmas

View/ Open
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most significant technological developments of recent years, substantially influencing the way organisations operate and manage their human resources. AI applications are increasingly being integrated into Human Resource Management (HRM) functions, including recruitment and selection, employee evaluation, training and development, workforce analytics, and decision-making processes. At the same time, the growing adoption of AI raises important concerns regarding transparency, privacy, algorithmic bias, accountability, and the role of human judgement in organisational decisions.
The aim of this dissertation is to investigate employees’ perceptions of the use of Artificial Intelligence in Human Resource Management and to explore the factors that influence their acceptance of and trust in AI-based applications. To achieve this objective, a quantitative research approach was adopted. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed electronically via Google Forms. The final sample consisted of 42 employees from different professional sectors, and the collected data were analysed using descriptive statistical methods.
The findings indicate that participants generally hold a positive attitude towards the use of AI in HRM and recognise its potential benefits, particularly in areas such as employee training and development and the screening of job applications. However, employees also express concerns regarding data privacy, the reliability of algorithmic decision-making, and the possibility of AI replacing HR professionals. In addition, the results highlight the importance of transparency, employee awareness, and maintaining human oversight in decisions that affect employees.
Overall, the study suggests that the acceptance of Artificial Intelligence in Human Resource Management depends not only on the technological capabilities of AI systems but also on the extent to which organisations ensure fairness, accountability, transparency, and trust. The findings contribute to a better understanding of employees’ attitudes towards AI and underline the importance of adopting responsible and human-centred approaches to the implementation of AI in the workplace.
