Abstract
This master’s thesis focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of the hybrid
augmented reality educational game "The City of Inclusion." The game is designed for hearing
adult learners who are completing their first cycle of studies in Greek Sign Language. Its main
objective is to serve as an alternative and more experiential medium for the final review,
consolidation, and self-assessment of the knowledge acquired by the learners. To achieve
this, a handmade physical board representing a city is combined with digital tools, such as the
ARTutor Augmented Reality platform, H5P interactive quizzes, QR codes, and the "Wheel of
Names" digital wheel. Through this approach, theoretical knowledge shifts from simple study
to a more active, interactive, and collaborative learning experience. During the game,
participants move through the city and interact with both the physical and digital
environments. By scanning image markers, they can watch short videos featuring native
signers while responding to various communication challenges. A special emphasis is placed
on mechanisms that go beyond linguistic assessment, aiming instead to cultivate empathy
and inclusion. The pilot implementation of the game took place in real classroom conditions
with the participation of learners, Deaf instructors, and interpreters. Alongside participant
feedback, a self-assessment of the educational application and game design was conducted
to identify strengths and areas for improvement. The results of the overall evaluation
highlighted the positive pedagogical contribution of the game.
