The prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) is an important parameter of patient safety in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). The purpose of this Master's Thesis was to design and develop the asynchronous e-course "Safe Central Line Care", aiming to support the knowledge and clinical decision-making skills of ICU nurses regarding the safe care of central venous catheters and the prevention of CLABSIs.
The e-course was developed on the Wix platform, has a planned duration of 25 hours and is organized into five consecutive educational modules. Its design was based on the principles of adult education, experiential learning and constructive alignment and includes evidence-based clinical content, self-assessment quizzes with feedback, clinical scenarios, reflective activities, worksheets and multimedia material. In addition, Wix Smart Chat was integrated to support navigation and functional guidance of learners.
The proposed evaluation framework was organized around three axes, namely knowledge, clinical decision-making skills and learning experience and satisfaction. As no implementation was carried out on a real sample, no conclusions can be drawn regarding the effectiveness of the e-course. Future pilot implementation and systematic evaluation are required in order to explore its educational value and the possibility of its use in the continuing education of ICU nurses.
