This thesis examines the collaboration between smart drones and the Internet of Things (IoT) as a key mechanism for enhancing the functionality of smart cities. Initially, a comprehensive literature review is presented, highlighting the main applications of this collaboration, with emphasis on energy efficiency, data collection, security and privacy, public safety, disaster management, and the improvement of quality of life. Subsequently, the study focuses on a case study concerning network selection in 5G architectures for drone services, through the analysis of the DTFT-ACW algorithm, as proposed in the relevant scientific literature. In this way, the thesis connects the general theoretical framework of smart cities with a specific application example in a 5G environment, providing a more complete and coherent evaluation of the subject.
