This dissertation examines the contribution of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to the organizational functioning of healthcare organizations, with emphasis on efficiency, resource management and the conditions that may support safer care. The study is based on a critical narrative synthesis of the literature and does not attribute a direct causal effect of ERP systems on clinical outcomes. Information integration, process standardization, the management of human, financial and material resources, data quality and managerial oversight are analyzed as key organizational mechanisms through which ERP systems may create value. The reviewed literature indicates that their benefits depend on technological and organizational readiness, management commitment, user participation and training, data governance and interoperability. The integration of administrative information may also improve the visibility of resources and operational deviations, without replacing clinical judgement or dedicated patient-safety mechanisms. Finally, a five-axis framework is proposed for the indicative assessment of organizational maturity and the effective use of ERP systems in healthcare organizations. The framework is conceptual and explanatory and requires future empirical validation.
