Abstract

This thesis presents the development of a digital map that illustrates the historical evolution of coinage in the Mediterranean region, with particular emphasis on the Greek area. The aim of the study is to explore the potential of digital tools in representing and understanding historical and economic phenomena, as well as to examine the integration of such a tool into the educational process. Initially, the objectives and the main research questions that motivated the implementation of the study are presented. Subsequently, the theoretical background of the research is developed, examining the emergence and evolution of coinage in the Mediterranean region, as well as key economic theories that significantly influenced the development of economic thought and practice. Furthermore, the academic fields that contributed to the development of the project are analyzed, including history, numismatics, economic theory, and digital technologies. Particular emphasis is placed on the ways in which this digital tool can be utilized within the learning process, which also constitutes one of the central research questions of the present study. The methodology followed during the research is then presented, along with the digital tools that were examined and utilized, as well as the stages involved in the design and construction of the digital map. In the context of the educational application of the tool, a teaching plan is also proposed, fully aligned with both the subject of the research and the contemporary requirements of educational practice. Finally, the main conclusions of the research are presented, along with suggestions for future studies and further exploration of the possibilities offered by new technologies in the fields of numismatics and education.
