Abstract
The rapid adoption of AI tools across organizations has led to a new phe-nomenon known as Bring Your Own AI (BYOAI). The term refers to the use of person-al or non-approved AI tools by employees to perform work-related tasks, including large language models and generative AI platforms. Although this practice can in-crease efficiency and creativity it also introduces critical risks for information security, data privacy, regulatory compliance, and overall corporate governance. In many cas-es, the use of AI evolves faster than the organization’s governance policies, making BYOAI one of the most demanding challenges in today’s digital environment.
Despite its growing importance, current AI governance frameworks and re-search provide limited guidance on how to manage the specific risks associated with BYOAI. This study addresses this gap by examining employees’ attitudes and behav-iors though a combination of literature review and empirical research using a structed survey.
Based on the findings, the study proposes the Own Your AI Governance (OYAG) Framework, a governance model that combines organizational policies, tech-nical safeguards, compliance procedures, internal audit mechanisms, and awareness initiatives. The contribution of the research is twofold, as it enhances theoretical un-derstanding of the BYOAI phenomenon while providing a practical governance tool applicable to real organizational environments.
