The management of the Sustainable Supply Chain (Sustainable Supply Chain Management – SSCM) and its related practices constitute an emerging and continuously evolving field of research interest, especially in dynamic corporate environments and industries facing increased demands for responsibility and transparency. In today’s competitive landscape, consumers are increasingly aware and concerned about sustainability-related issues, placing particular emphasis on the safety and ethical aspects of the products they consume—especially when these products stem from sustainable processes. Organizations that successfully respond to these expectations address an audience that is conscious of the three fundamental dimensions of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. These factors holistically influence production, distribution, and consumption processes, particularly in the food sector, but also more broadly across critical industrial sectors. This paper aims to review the progress of SSCM practices in recent years, with the objective of identifying significant developments, mapping major scientific trends, highlighting areas of consensus, and pinpointing existing research gaps. A well-documented understanding of these trends is expected to contribute to the advancement of future research and the development of more effective and strategically focused sustainable supply chain management initiatives. Additionally, the paper seeks to present key innovative SSCM practices that have been adopted at both national and international levels by organizations and enterprises. Through the analysis of these practices, it becomes clear how corporate sustainability strategies enhance competitiveness, offering businesses a comparative advantage in the field of supply chain management.
