This thesis focuses on the design of a digital augmented reality (AR) game for learning Greek
as a foreign language, entitled “Ellinopedia Go”. The game is aimed at A2-level learners,
according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. By utilizing the
ARTutor tool and integrating both physical and digital elements, the game seeks to provide a
multisensory and culturally enriched learning environment. The thesis initially presents the
theoretical background regarding the teaching of Greek as a foreign language, contemporary
challenges, and the potential of technology integration. It then analyzes the pedagogical and
theoretical framework related to the linguistic skills of the A2 level, the characteristics of
learners at this stage, as well as the contribution of augmented reality games and the ARTutor
platform to the learning process. Furthermore, it offers a detailed description of the game’s
design, its pedagogical approach, and its content features. Finally, it discusses the game’s
evaluation through a rubric, its prospects for improvement, and its comparison with other
augmented reality games. The aim of this study is to highlight the potential of augmented
reality in teaching Greek as a foreign language by proposing a comprehensive pedagogical
model that combines interactive experience with the development of language skills through
gameplay.
