This master’s thesis presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of a Skills Workshop focusing on digital identity and responsible participation in social media, addressed to secondary school students. In an era when adolescents primarily shape their social image online, the development of critical digital literacy and responsible online behavior is essential in order to prevent phenomena such as misinformation, online conflicts, and loss of privacy.
The workshop was designed in line with the guidelines of the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP) for Skills Workshops, incorporating experiential and collaborative approaches, cross-curricular scenarios, and digital tools, with the aim of fostering soft skills and encouraging students’ responsible engagement in the digital world. Its design draws inspiration from international 21st-century skills frameworks (the 4Cs: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity). Moreover, it seeks to strengthen students’ digital responsibility, self-awareness, empathy, and creative expression.
The structure includes five thematic units, addressing issues such as understanding the functioning of social media, self-awareness and recognition of digital identity, distinguishing between digital and real-life images, critically reflecting on published online content and its impact on digital reputation, and managing online conflicts. The activities combine experiential, collaborative, and cross-curricular learning with the use of modern digital tools (Google Classroom, Canva, Padlet, Mentimeter, Google Docs), selected to enhance interaction, collaboration, and creativity.
The evaluation relies on formative and descriptive methods, including self-assessment and student portfolios, promoting reflection and active participation. The expected outcomes include an improved ability of students to critically assess information, manage their digital reputation, and interact online with respect and responsibility.
