This paper focuses on the design, development and evaluation of a digital course based on
the microlearning methodology and the educational exploitation of the digital escape room,
with the aim of enhancing the geographical and cultural education of Secondary School
students in Europe. The theoretical framework examines the basic pedagogical principles of
micro-learning, the features and benefits of digital escape rooms, as well as the use of tools
such as Genially to create interactive content. Emphasis is given to the geographical and
cultural dimension of European education, through thematic units that include political and
physical geography, culture, everyday practices and the emblematic faces of each country.
The methodological approach includes the design and pilot implementation of a digital escape
room, titled Unlock Europe, which is structured based on micro-lessons and missions that
incorporate elements of playful learning, empathy and cultural understanding. The empirical
part presents the educational use of the game, while the evaluation examines the reactions
of the trainees, the advantages and limitations of the approach. The paper concludes with
proposals for future research and expansion of the use of digital escape rooms in education,
contributing to the development of innovative teaching practices that exploit the potential
of educational technology.
