This postgraduate thesis focuses on the design and development of a digital board game titled Masters of Printing, intended to support the teaching of the subject “Printing Technology” taught in Vocational High Schools (EPAL) in Greece, specifically within the Graphic Arts specialization. The course covers the main printing methods and is considered particularly demanding due to its technical content and extensive curriculum.
The game was conceived as an innovative educational tool, incorporating augmented reality (AR) and other digital technologies, aiming to enhance student engagement, understanding, and knowledge retention. The thesis presents a detailed account of the game development process, based on the GGJ Next methodology, including well-defined educational objectives, narrative structure, rules, visual design, and the creation of digital educational content organized by topic.
Special emphasis was placed on aligning the game with the official curriculum, the approved textbook, and the questions from the National Question Bank, ensuring its pedagogical coherence. The effectiveness of the game was evaluated through prototyping, playtesting, rubrics, and feedback collected from both teachers and students. The findings highlighted the game’s high educational value, its positive reception by students, and its potential to enrich the teaching and learning experience.
The thesis concludes with suggestions for future improvements and emphasizes the importance of integrating game-based and augmented reality technologies into educational practice, particularly in technical and vocational subjects.
