This thesis focuses on the design and implementation of an educational digital game for primary school students, aiming to enhance the learning process through gamification. The game, entitled “An Unexpected Help”, is addressed to fourth-grade students and is designed as a revision tool for three fundamental areas of mathematics: Arithmetic, Geometry, and Math Problems, while also including an additional integrative revision chapter.
The storyline of the game revolves around the character of Scrooge McDuck, guiding students through a narrative in which they must answer questions and successfully progress through three consecutive levels. Each response is recorded, allowing for personalized assessment of the student’s performance at the end of the game. The player’s advancement is directly linked to the unfolding of the story, thereby increasing engagement and motivation.
The primary goal of this work is to promote a more interactive and enjoyable learning experience, in contrast to traditional assessment methods such as worksheets. By integrating digital games into the evaluation process, this study highlights the potential for creating a more engaging learning environment that fosters active student participation, cultivates a more positive attitude towards the subject, and provides a more direct and effective means of knowledge assessment.
