The present Master’s Thesis addresses the creation and development of a Skills Workshop aimed at fostering and cultivating Moral Values in preschool children, using fairy tales as the main stimulus. The use of both classical and contemporary fairy tales for the introduction of such concepts to children of this age group was intentional, since “The fairy tale […] is a bearer not only of aesthetic, but also of social and cultural values. It broadens the child’s horizons, promotes creative imagination, enables aesthetic cultivation, and simultaneously contributes to their psycho-intellectual maturity.” (Antonopoulou Patroula, Polydorou Maria, 2003). By utilizing fairy tales, and through the use of simple and comprehensible language, it is possible to introduce children to complex notions such as respect, responsibility, honesty, empathy, among others. Through the stories, children are introduced to these concepts, and subsequently, by engaging with worksheets, interactive activities, and a variety of visual aids, they are given the opportunity to relate these notions to everyday life situations and to practice their differentiation and understanding. A subsequent chapter highlights the importance of cultivating moral values in preschool children, the role of Skills Workshops in the curriculum, as well as the fairy tale as a pedagogical tool for values education. The final part presents the implementation of the Skills Workshop, including worksheets, interactive activities, visual material, as well as student evaluation and self-assessment sheets.
