This Master’s Thesis focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of an interactive Geography lesson about South America, delivered through videos and digital games, tailored to the level of sixth-grade primary school students. The lesson was organized into two teaching sessions of 45 minutes each, and various digital tools were utilized for its implementation (videos, quizzes on Wordwall, activities on LearningApps, a wheel of choice, and matching worksheets). The aim of the program was to enhance students’ active participation, foster spatial thinking, and cultivate intercultural sensitivity through the exploration of geographical and cultural elements of five South American countries: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Chile.
The instructional approach was grounded in theories such as constructivism, Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, multimodal learning, and game-based learning, thereby creating a student-centered and engaging learning environment. Students were given the opportunity to take an active role in presenting and selecting answers on the interactive whiteboard, which strengthened collaboration and boosted their self-confidence. The evaluation of the lesson was conducted through self-assessment tools, providing students with the opportunity to reflect on the knowledge and skills they had acquired.
The results indicated that the integration of ICT and interactive activities can make Geography more appealing and effective, promoting not only knowledge acquisition but also collaborative and critical thinking. In conclusion, such approaches can enrich teaching practice, enhance student participation, and contribute to the creation of a more enjoyable and meaningful learning environment.
