This master’s thesis focuses on the design and digital implementation of a Skills Workshop for preschool children, entitled “Learning Mission: Save the Caretta-Caretta!”. Its aim is to develop a comprehensive pedagogical package, which can be used by preschool teachers as a guide for implementing of the educational program in the classroom. The purpose of the educational program is to cultivate environmental awareness and to strengthen responsibility and active citizenship through experiential and digitally supported activities. The sea turtle (Caretta-Caretta) plays a central role in the program, as an example of environmental threat that can motivate young children.
The program consists of seven (7) workshops, that integrate experiential and cooperative teaching methods, thinking routines, and dialogue tools. It was designed with a variety of activities, such as discussions, worksheets, digital games, a field visit, the organization of a school event, and role-play, aiming to connect knowledge with practice. The program was enhanced by the use of digital tools such as Canva, Genially, LearningApps, Gamma, and ChatGPT, which enable the creation of engaging educational material and encourage active student participation. All the material is hosted on the Google Classroom platform, which constitutes as a complete guide for preschool teachers, facilitating the effective implementation of the program in the
classroom.
The thesis discusses the content of environmental education in preschool, presents related programs, and examines the role of Skills Workshops as an educational innovation. In addition, it evaluates the educational design based on criteria through rubrics and identifies strengths and weaknesses.
Overall, the study highlights that environmental education can become more meaningful when combined with experiential, playful, and interdisciplinary methods, supported by digital tools. This thesis aspires to serve as a practical resource for preschool teachers, aiming to foster environmental attitudes and promote the development of active citizens from early childhood.
