This study explores the integration of ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management) systems within a food company. The integration of these standards aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce duplication of procedures, and ensure compliance with international requirements related to quality and food safety.
The research begins with a critical review of the literature on the implementation and integration of ISO 9001 and ISO 22000, highlighting both benefits and challenges. A qualitative case study is then presented, based on semi-structured interviews with managers and employees of a Greek food enterprise that has adopted an Integrated Management System (IMS).
The findings indicate that the integration provided significant advantages, such as process simplification, improved traceability, reduced bureaucracy, and enhanced internal communication. Nevertheless, challenges were also identified, including the need for cultural adaptation and staff training. The study concludes with practical recommendations for the effective implementation of integrated management systems in the food sector.
